The most important Arequipa’s food festival “Festisabores” expects to attract over 60,000 people on October 17-21.
Alfonso Eguiluz Alegre, head of Arequipa Gastronomic Association, said that last year the event drew 53,000 people – a figure that is expected to increase significantly this year due to the participation of other Peruvian regions.
This year, exhibitiors from La Libertad, Madre de Dios, Cusco and Moquegua will take part in the five-day festival.
Arequipa’s cuisine is known for its spicy flavor that complements dishes like rocoto relleno (stuffed red peppers), chupe de camarones (shrimp chowder) and cuy chactado (fried guinea pig).
The event will also feature the participation of 160 exhibitors and Arequipa’s well-known restaurants.
